Imagine a Tiny American Flag as the Title of This Post

Here are the top 5 things I have been thinking while here in DC (in no particular order):

  • Yay! Jeff!
  • I'm really hot.
  • Why is writing this damn story/novella so damn hard?
  • When can I go back inside to an air conditioned space?  (Also, I must walk more quickly towards that patch of weak looking shade.)
  • It's so fun being a new city with a cute boy.

Today is the second day I've decided not to go out and see a museum or monument while Jeff is at work and just write.  I took my laptop to a coffee shop that came highly recommended.  I got here about the time the second half of the US v. Algeria World Cup game started.  It was packed with people watching the game.  Some people were on laptops and some not.  Somehow I scored a table and set up.  In between major plays it felt like a normal cafe, but when the teams neared either goal ripples of groans and shouts moved through the crowd.  Watching these games in the midst of large groups has been a great deal of fun.  I dare anyone who says soccer is boring to watch a game in a charged atmosphere and stick to their guns.  Also, I think everyone should read this article about why soccer is the world's sport.  It's great writing and really interesting.

USA!  USA!

I care not at all about the Olympics, for the most part.  I'm redirecting all my patriotic sports pride into the World Cup, I think.  Also, I'd like to channel some of whatever Landon Donovan has and get this first draft done in my (metaphorical) 91st minute, please.  I have to send whatever I have to my adviser next week.  If only I could pull of the tension of a heated soccer match in my prose.

How long are you in DC? What coffee shop did you hit up? I need to know some good ones around here, myself.

I am in DC until Sunday. I went to Tryst, which is in Adams Morgan. It was really nice, cool vibe. They give you animal crackers with your drink and have good food. It is also a bar, so if you went later in the day you could also choose to have a beer.

Do you have any DC must-dos or must-sees?

Ahh I was RIGHT next to Tryst at the Diner (even owned by the same people) during the soccer game! Craziness. I don't know any must-dos or must-sees other than tourist-y stuff... Museums are cool and free, at least.

Oh my, Allison! We could have had a little blogger meet up! I've gone to a few museums. Not only are they free, they are AIR CONDITIONED! :)

While "enjoy" is not the word I would choose, Jessie, I can quite confidently say I am experiencing the heat quite a bit! haha.
