Notes From the Weekend

(No news, yet.)

Twice on Friday (once while standing in the kitchen with family and once while sitting around with good friends) I laughed so hard I nearly cried.

It snowed for the first time. When we woke up on Saturday morning the sky was white. Not cloudy or grey. Just white. As I sat in the kitchen drinking the day's first cup of coffee I noticed that it was snowing. Or sleeting, really. Snow-sleeting, the kind that comes down sideways and stings your face.

I stayed inside, most of the day.

Later in the evening we decided to walk to the movie. By then it was dark and had stopped snowing. We went early so we could stop for hot chocolate half way there. For a couple hours we watched George Clooney walk and run and fly around the Hawaiian islands. When we walked outside afterwards I let myself be surprised, again, by the sight of snow. Soon it won't be surprising. But for now everyone snaps photos to upload to Facebook. Everyone stands at the window to remark at the change.

It will probably melt by Thursday.

(And I've been following lots of #OWS news. I support the protesters. I'm (naively?) shocked that cops are pepper spraying peaceful students, poets and 84 year old women. Yet, much of the time, I am hopeful that this is the start of some real change.)

I'm so glad you had what sounds like a fun and relaxing weekend. And I love Alexander Payne's movies (Election is my favorite) and want to see The Descendants ASAP. What did you think of it?

This weekend, the Cleveland weather transitioned from freezing to pleasantly warm. I was out and about yesterday in a hoodie and actually got too warm! Well. This certainly won't last.

Laura, the movie was good. Not quite as moving as I expected, but enjoyable. Authentic. I think we'll be in hoody weather once more before it gets to cold and snow for real. Hope your enjoying it while it does last!

I hope both Jeff and your mom get good news. I'll be thinking of all of you!
